“Pen is stronger than the sword.”
I take it you all have heard of the pamphlet by Thomas Paine, Common Sense? Good. That is important.
As a friend of Thomas Paine, I can tell you that the journey of writing this pamphlet would have been a much larger struggle if our friends and I had not helped him out. The pamphlet originally started in the newspaper, but then it got too long, and I knew something needed to be done. We had to keep releasing. As a fellow educated author with many careers, I advised Thomas Paine on the best way to get the pamphlet published and to reach the most people. His writings must be read, especially by the common people who may not quite understand just how important being independent from England is.
I am so proud that so many people agree with and enjoyed reading the pamphlet. Full independence is necessary, otherwise the entire point of our patriotism is defeated, and improvement will never come. Plus, what is the point? Why should England get to control us? There are thousands of miles of ocean between us; they will never understand us or be able to protect us! We need our own government, just like Thomas Paine says; it is a necessary evil. People will fight and we need something that can help mediate and protect us when needed. And on top of all that, we need to come up with our own methods of elections as well as multi-check our checks and balances systems to create and maintain the utmost representation in our government while keeping their power under control.
These are just a few examples from the pamphlet that I agree with, but there are so many more. Go give it a read, and make sure to share it with others!
